Aims
- To develop a sustainable healthcare system combining both allopathic and traditional medicine to serve the poor in the region of Yushu, Tibet.
- To address the underlying factors contributing to the high morbidity and mortality that exists in this area.
- To provide an opportunity for people to give to others in need, knowing that 100% of donations will be directly used to achieve these aims.
- To eventually make the Medical Center self-sustainable through relevant economic projects.
- In the future, to replicate this model elsewhere in Tibet.
Model
Medical
- A Central Medical Center, "Beneficial For All," in Yushu to provide free Traditional and Allopathic medical care for all poor people, both Tibetan and Chinese.
- Mobile Medical Units will be provided to deliver health care to isolated villages and nomadic people who have no other means of access.
- Smaller clinics will be established in outlying areas. These will be run by local health care workers.
- Local people will be trained as interpretors, health care workers, nurses, doctors, dentists, and practitioners of Chinese and Tibetan medicine.
- Establishment of a dental clinic, and regular specialist medical services.
- Volunteer Doctors, Nurses, Dentists, and other allied health professionals, will be required from April through to October starting 2008 to help deliver these sevices.
Economic Sustainability
- Sale of medicine to those who can afford it.
- Establishment of an English-Language school with the help of volunteer teachers.
